Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of the horror genre: Get comfortable with your significant other and watch Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its streaming debut on Hulu. On the surface, it could look like typical physical horror, but beneath Together exists a deep examination about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the two stars contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when Millie and Tim relocate from the metropolis to the country for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, admittedly, but that’s largely where the tropes conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the couple. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn of scares, blending elements of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but never too gross) body horror, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes during something disturbing). Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and removed from his social circle. He is terrified of the idea of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Both characters face the type of challenges that arise in long-term unions over a long period. At their core, they have affection for each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for staying single. Conversely, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own reaction could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the ending sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can undertake right now.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu now.
